Mural, mural on the wall
Whyte Avenue is like an open-air art gallery for anyone
who wants to cross the Valley and take a tour

WHYTE AVENUE is known for its bars, restaurants, pubs and nightclubs, but it is also home to an assortment of colourful murals scattered along its length, from 99th to 109th Streets.
Many are in plain sight – it’s hard to miss the 14-foot Curious George mural on the north side, near 101st Street –but many others are somewhat hidden.
Most of them are vibrant and lively.
For Example, painted on the side of the Old Strathcona Market, along Gateway Boulevard, “Farmers Market,” by Fiona Yardley Jones and Amanda Schultz, depicts joyful members of the community buying fresh produce.
Warm oranges, reds, yellows and greens are present in most of the murals. Uplifting messages like “Keep Shining” and “beautiful” can be found on two of them.
Others have more urgent messages, like “2020 Climate Emergency.”
The art adds character to a city full of grey roads, dull corporate buildings, and suburban sprawl.
